Possessing a significant amount of silver fittings over her sharp decks, the Twin-Screw Motor Vessel COPELAND is a fine example of the craft of both Scottish ship builders and modelers. Built by artisans of the Caledonian Shipbuilders & Engineering Company themselves, the model is a very top example in a nice large scale.
Built in 1947 for the Clyde Shipping Company of Glasgow, she carried an overall length of 235' with a 38' beam, and 18' hull depth. She flies the ‘CSC' house flag, the British nautical ensign, her name pennant, and a Union Jack pilot signal the model is complete in every sense, with it showing its raised profile on four turned columns. Her three large holds are painted with a nautical green and strapped down securely. The deck gear is all silver plated.
This extremely accurate model shows the complete ship. The tiered-superstructure and multiple bridges tell of her versatility in the British coastal trade. She was one of nine ships the company had built in the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s. The company itself began in 1815, and is still operating today. For this ship, it is most probably the only three-dimensional representation ever built.
