Captain Oliver G. Lane was the first commander of the crack Boston clipper NEPTUNE'S FAVORITE, built at Chelsea by Jotham Stetson in 1854. Captain Lane took command of NEPTUNE'S FAVORITE from the time of her maiden voyage in 1854 and sailed her around the world carrying cargo from Boston to Europe and Asia.
From her home port in Boston, NEPTUNE'S FAVORITE made record breaking voyages to Europe and San Francisco, also making several fast passages to Australia and China. In the background of this portrait of Captain Lane is seen NEPTUNE'S FAVORITE under sail in Hong Kong harbor, the likely location for this studio portrait by Hong Kong artist Lai Sung.
In its period Chinese Chippendale Frame.
