Painted in his best period, this interesting work of art by Louis Valtat comes with a significant provenance, once being a prized possession of Post-Impressionist artist Maximilien Luce. We feel this work was executed around 1898, which is considered his best period. The works displays vivid and explosive colors, showing a mother and small child at the edge of a shore. His stylized methods show why he was an instrumental force in the coming of the Fauvist painters.
Although one might think it would be Valtat's wife, Suzanne and son Jean, born in 1908, however the time frame of the style is earlier and suggests the possibility that it might be in fact the wife and son of the famous impressionist Maximillan Luce. He and his wife spent most of their days together, either at his wife's family's Versailles estate, or in various beach cities, riding bicycles and painting.
The subjects are dressed in proper Belle Epoque style, a full parasol overhead, while the child is dressed in a sailor motif.
